What the Fish Has To Say- Monthly Blog

As we near the hot summer days and warm summer nights we tend to spend more time outside. If you’re catching up on yard work, barbecuing in the back yard, or spending time in your yard relaxing with family or even friends you may notice this guy roaming around your yard, the Lizard. Many people tend to appreciate this backyard reptile but usually from a distance. When they make their way closer to your home or even inside your house that’s when people tend to FREAK OUT.

For some people the lizard can even bring about a form of stress an anxiety. And some are simply grossed out. Most lizards are actually pretty harmless and even provide a form of pest control.

Lizards will tend to eat small insects such as ants, aphids, or even spiders. An abundance of lizards can even be a sign of other pest issues. There is no pesticide to control Lizards. Your best bet to keep them outside of  your home is simply to make sure you have no openings such as gaps around piping or under doors. Keep storage and piles of wood, stone, debris of shrubs and grass over growth away from your home eliminating places for them to harbor. Lastly, contact your local pest control provider. If you can rid your home of other insects you will remove potential food sources. Lizards do not damage your home.

Once these items are taken care of  you should only see lizards making the occasional visit to your back yard as they move on to the next.
